Roller shutters
Sun and heat stopped on the outside of west-facing glass, before it ever reaches the room.
Shading, not security. Our roller shutters are made for sun, heat and glare control on the outside of the glass. They are not security-rated shutters — that is a different product, which we can quote on request.

Blind repairs & servicing
A blind that has stopped rolling straight, a snapped chain, a tired spring, a motor that no longer answers its remote — most of it is a repair, not a replacement. We service and restring existing blinds across Featherbrooke and the West Rand, including blinds we did not fit, and we will tell you honestly when a unit has genuinely reached the end of its life rather than quote you for a new one.

Local knowledge
Why Featherbrooke's weather and estate rules set the spec
Featherbrooke Estate sits on the West Rand between Krugersdorp and Roodepoort — a gated family estate of double-storey homes on generous stands, most built open-plan with big sliding doors onto the garden and patio. That layout, and the highveld sky above it, change what actually works on the window.
The afternoon highveld sun
West- and north-facing living rooms catch the full brunt of the afternoon sun, right as the kids get home from school and the kitchen fills up. Sunscreen roller or day/night is the standard first answer; cellular blockout for real thermal relief in bedrooms that bake by 4pm.
Highveld hail season
November to March brings sudden highveld thunderstorms — and this stretch of the West Rand sits well within the summer hail belt. Motorised awnings and exterior roller shutters need a wind sensor as standard, not an optional extra, so they retract automatically before a storm hits, not after.
Estate architectural guidelines
Security estates on the West Rand typically set rules on what's visible from the street or common areas — colour, fabric, sometimes mounting position. We work to those guidelines from the first measure, so your install doesn't turn into a conversation with the trustees afterwards.
Family life, not showroom life
Kids' rooms want cordless or motorised safety, not a looped chain within reach of a cot. Open-plan living wants zoned control — bright kitchen, dim TV nook. The patio and pool want shade for entertaining that retracts, not a fixed roof that blocks the welcome winter sun.

Before you book
Do we need estate or HOA approval before anything's fitted?
Many West Rand security estates set architectural guidelines on colour and what's visible from the street or common areas. We'll talk you through exactly what we're proposing at the measure so you have what you need for your trustees or managing agent — approval itself sits with your estate.
Can blinds be motorised without an electrician or fresh wiring?
Yes — battery-motorised systems are the retrofit default for most homes. No chasing walls, no trailing cable, just a periodic charge. Wired motors are also an option where a renovation already has the electrics open, or for larger exterior systems.
How long does it take from quote to fitted?
Every blind is made to order, so lead time depends on the product and fabric — your written quote confirms the exact timeline before you commit to anything.
Are the cords and chains safe with kids and pets around?
Chain tensioners anchoring the loop to the wall are standard on every install. For nurseries and kids' rooms we'll recommend wand-tilt, cordless or motorised control — no dangling chain at all, and no cot or bed positioned under a corded window.
Do exterior awnings and roller shutters actually survive a highveld hailstorm?
A wind/rain sensor is the honest answer, not a heavier fabric. It retracts an awning or closes a roller shutter automatically before a storm arrives, rather than relying on someone being home to do it manually. Wind ratings on any exterior product are real limits, and we'll be upfront about them.
What if we're not home during the day for the measure?
We work around school runs, work schedules and evenings or weekends where needed, and can coordinate access with Featherbrooke's security sign-in process if that's how your visit needs to happen.
